Van der Faun Perfumes – Local Brisbane Brand

The lovely folks at Van der Faun flew a little bird over to me one day.

Now. How many of you spray your perfume in the air above you before walking through the mist or even in your hair, so as to avoid spraying the chemical directly on your skin?

Not anymore.

I’m excited to team up with Van der Faun to bring you some local loving (Hello from Brisbane!)

Their handcrafted organic perfume are produced without chemicals such as parabens, phthalates, and artificial fragrances that I would usually be afraid of absorbing into my bloodstream. And as you see, all ingredients used in their products are 100% organic and pure essential oils – so it’s a pure scent that can last you through the ages without the stickiness or any side effects to your health, such as skin irritation or allergies.

Needless to say, there is a reason why aromatherapy exists. Essential oils have great benefits, ranging from Bergamot essential oil which improves mood and fights depression, heals cuts and scars, and Palmarosa oil promoting growth & regeneration of cells and facilitates digestion – just to name a few of the many essential oils used in their fragrances.

Even as I was unwrapping their black crêpe packaging, you’d get a whiff of their iconic scents – Hummingbird and River.

Hummingbird is sweet and fresh.

At first scent, bright hints of rose, honeysuckle and geranium are the first to hit. So imagine entering your room to a fresh bouquet of flowers on the verge of blooming and the fragrant floral tunes rising around it.

Other blooms in the mix also included Bergamot, Palmarosa, Amyris and Patchouli, which gives it a certain mintiness and citrusy scent balanced against the slight woodiness. As a personal recommendation, I find that it’s the scent most suited for the younger ages ranging from 16 – 25, those who typically look for a vibrant perfume.

On the other hand, River leans more towards a warm and spicy base with wildflower and fresh citrus overtones ideal for the more mature users.

Like Hummingbird, its freshness stems from hints of Geranium, Neroli and Sweet Orange, but has stronger details within the earthy undertones of Bergamot (bitter orange rind), Patchouli (white musk), Cedarwood and Clove Bud.

Both perfumes are a definite hit, chosen based on the occasion, if it were glamour/work or everyday wear, with a unique blend of sweet and savoury. And as a bonus, both fragrances have an incredible staying power, being able to last the whole day with just enough scent lingering on your skin.

A big shout out to Van der Faun for the intricate work done to create such delicate pieces. Click here to order!

  1. This was life on Wall Street only 50 years ago: “The secretaries all had to wear hats and gloves. In the bathrooms, they had light bulbs with the partner’s [boss’s] name. The partner would ring you up. If you were in the bathroom, you had to run out immediately.”

  2. I mostly stopped using spray perfumes once I had kids (they are little and still do a lot of nuzzling) because I didn’t want the chemicals to rub off on them. It looks like this might be worth reintroducing!

    1. That’s really great to hear, Chika! It certainly is worth the try – I’ve been on the lookout for organic perfumes myself because of the chemicals too.

Do let me know how that goes for you!

    2. While it’s frustrating to see the attitudes and blatant racism of some of the people on Grindr it’s also a tremendous way to see if someone is worth your time. In ye olden times of yore (the 90′s) we usually found out the object of our affections had a revolting attitude halfway through a coffee and had to stay lest be judged impolite. Now you can just read a sentence and know to keep on fliknicg…
